Rev John Bell MA (son)

Rev John Bell, son of the former minister Rev John Bell MA (1613), came to be minister of the High Kirk in 1641. He graduated from Glasgow in 1632. Before being translated in 1641, he had been admitted to Glasford on the 1st of January 1640. He died in 1665 aged about 54. His first wife was Jean Balcanquhall, who died in September 1652. He married again on the 13th October 1662 to Janet, daughter of Thomas Craigingelt, servitor to the Countess of Eglinton, who survived him. She then married Kalph Rodger, Minister of Kilwinning. On a piece of oak behind the manse pew are the initials of John Bell and his first wife, "M. [Mr] I. B., I. B. 1641.")— [Glasg. Tests. ; Baillie's Lett. ; Tombst.]
